In my twenties I took ballet and jazz. According to my teachers I was a natural, but it was too late to consider a dancing career. I found creative freedom and power as a writer and producer for a local television station. My "inner gypsy" then set my feet dancing through a series of life and career changes. I was a flight attendant based in Roanoke,Virginia, then a creative director for a flamboyant, flash-in-the-pan company in San Rafael, California. After a few years as a freelance writer in Atlanta, I heard the ocean whisper its song to me. I spent my thirty-something years dwelling by the edge of the vast expanse of ocean that echoed warm homecoming to the most ancient part of my heart. I learned to breathe, really breathe, and how healing it can be.
My dreams began to speak to me then, and I began to learn a language of symbols to decipher the depths of their meanings. A lion came to me in dreams, leading me from a sunny place near the water's edge and into tree-filled mountain vistas. The dream heralded my move to Asheville a short time later. It was here I discovered the doorway for my inner dancer to finally emerge, as a teacher of a movement form called Nia. Another dream assured me this was my path, and a series of coincidences and everyday miracles flung open the doors to get me all trained and certified! In 1998 I offered Asheville's very first Nia class. I've been dancing and sharing the joy of that dance, ever since.
Along the way other forms of healing and energy work have spoken to me, and I have integrated them into the dance I do in the world. I share them with you here. Let joy be your compass as you peruse these pages and join me in exploring some of the things I love! |
